A Week in Hell for Gamers

I don't care if you've got a PS2 or not, this week has been unpleasant for all but the most fortunate gamers. I'm sure you've all got a story of some sort regarding this week's happenings, but here's my story and how it will affect the site. Believe me when I say this is the condensed version of what happened this week.

Remember in the last update how I said my copy of the new Zelda would be arriving shortly? Well, to make a long story short, FedEx didn't deliver it and I just called and found out that the contents of the package were found empty at a FedEx center! So now it will be Monday at the earliest that the game will arrive.

As for the PS2, despite having ordered in June, I still had to spend hours on the phone and the web trying to find out where my system was (and I racked up some long distance charges along the way). The company that I ordered it from (which again, is as reputable as they come) didn't ship it out until the night of the 25th. The company intended to upgrade the shipping to overnight for free, but this didn't happen. Finding this out took an unfortunate amount of creativity and time on my part, given that the company's phone support was basically closed down all week. At least I now know that it's on its way.

The company that  I ordered my PS2 from required me to pay state sales tax on the order, so I thought I'd save myself some cash by pre-ordering my memory card and accessories from a different but equally reputable company. Well, it's now the 27th and my memory card has not shipped despite the fact that they are in stock. I'm told that there's no reason it shouldn't ship today, but then again, when I called yesterday they said the same thing.

I know a lot of you had to wait in the rain and cold for over 12 hours to get your systems and that my problems pale in comparison to that experience. I also know that many of you probably couldn't get a system at all. My point in telling you all of this is not to complain about my problems this week (indeed I feel very lucky to be getting a PS2 at all), but simply to let you know that if you've experienced problems this week, you're not alone. Nearly every gamer seems to have been negatively affected by the PS2 launch in some way.

As for what this means for the site, I'll try to get the review of the system and Ridge Racer up at the end of next week instead of the beginning of the week. Then I'll try to post my review of the new Zelda game early in the following week.

Hang on everyone, it's a bumpy ride.
