This
game has basically the same engine that the The Last Revelation (TR4)
had, but it's missing the stunning Egyptian environments. The
in-game model for Lara looks a lot less like the pre-rendered
images of Lara, but on the whole the game looks pretty nice on an
accelerated PC. |
Music:

Lara's
theme is a classic, but some of the music is a little annoying,
and it comes in odd short bursts. |
Sound
FX: 2/5 |

I
don't understand why Core keeps changing the voice of Lara. I
still say the first one was the best. The main reason that I give
the sound effects a 2 is that there are some places where there
are buzzers or machine noises that make me cringe and turn the
volume down. |
Play
Control: 6/10 |
|
I've
always loved the control scheme for the Tomb Raider games. It's amazing how many
moves can be done consistently and easily with the way things are
set up. However, this game brings new emphasis on the weakest part
of the controls, the combat controls. This aspect of the game can
be very frustrating, but on the whole the fighting control is
still fair. |
Frustration
Factor: 9/10 (10 being the worst) |
|
Why
such a high frustration factor? Because I'm very frustrated to see
what has happened to the Tomb Raider franchise as a whole. I had
hopes that The Last Revelation was bringing things back to the
franchise's strengths, but this game easily ties with TRIII as the
most violent and nonsensical of the bunch. There's also a lot more
try-then-die repetition required than in the past games. |
