Play mechanics:


WCW vs. NWO has several different one-player and multi-player wrestling modes. The gameplay is fundamentally the same in each mode.

Here's a summary of WCW vs. NWO's Play Modes and Default Controls:

Play Mode Description
WCW vs NWO Choose either the WCW or the NWO and play in a showdown between the two. (1 or 2 players)
League Challenge Re-enact famous pay-per-view events.
League Tournament Compete in a round robin tournament. Earn 3 points for a win, 1 point for a draw and 0 points for a loss.
Tournament Play a single elimination tournament. (1-4 players)
Battle Royale 1-4 players compete in one match. The last one standing wins. A tag-team option is also available.

Button Action
Control Stick Move the Control Stick to show off. Use the Control Stick with the A button while "Special" is displayed to execute a special move.
Control Pad The Control Pad controls your character's movement in the ring.
A A short press executes a weak grapple. A long press executes a strong grapple. When A is used with Control Pad while on the ropes, it will execute a flying attack. Also press A to attack fallen opponents. When playing outside of the ring, pressing A near a player at the edge of the ring will drag that player out of the ring.
B A short press executes a weak attack. A long press executes a strong attack. Also press B to hit opponents with foreign objects. When B is used with Control Pad, it executes a leg attack. Also use B to strike a fallen opponent
Top C Press Top C to flip an opponent or grab a foreign object from the crowd. When Top C is used with the Control Pad, you can climb in or our of the ring.
Bottom C Press Bottom C to run in the direction your character is facing. Also press Bottom C to pin a downed opponent. When Bottom C is used with Control Pad, you can fling opponents into the ropes.
Right C Changes your character's focus to a different opponent in multi-player/tag-team bouts.
Left C Press Left C on the selection screen to change your character's outfit.
R Press R for a block, a reversal, to release a grapple, or to pull up a fallen opponent.
L Press L to avoid a grapple or drag grounded opponents.
Start Pause.
