Mr. N64's Summary of Yoshi's Story's Story and Play Mechanics

Story:

According to the intro, Yoshi's island "fell" and became a story book. The Yoshis must save the Super Happy Tree from the evil Baby Bowser by eating lots of fruit and spreading happiness.


Play mechanics:

Here's a summary of Yoshi's Story's Play Modes and Controls:
Play Mode Description
Practice Get aquatinted with the controls.
Trial Mode Try for a high score in any previously cleared area.
Story Mode The one-player mode (1 game is saved on the Game Pak).

Button Action
Control Stick Move Yoshi/Aim Yoshi's eggs.
A Jump (press down on the control stick while in the air to "ground pound") Press A just after the peak of a jump to flutter jump (press up on the Control Stick just before flutter jumping to gain extra height). Fluttering can be done repeatedly.
B Sticks out tongue to eat bad guys and fruit. Also cancels an egg throw.
Z Hold to aim an egg. Release to fire the egg.
C Buttons Function the same as Z.
R Makes Yoshi sniff for hidden fruit.
L Toggle the on-screen fruit frame off/on.
Start Pause.
