12/29/2022 *************** "Witch Doctor", David Seville (1958), is one of the oldest songs I remember hearing when it was new. "Your Mamma Don't Dance", Loggins and Messina - I've always consider the LAST "pop" song I remember from when it was new. By that I mean, after "Your Mamma", "pop" music went on a real dive into the abyss. I consider "Your Mamma" to be the LAST good "pop" song of my generation. After that, songs like "Close to You", Carpenters, seemed to magically cause my car radio to change stations - frantically :-) Then came the "disco" years - gag me with a spoon! I'm not saying there weren't ANY good songs after 1972 - just very few. Not enough to hold my attention. (Okay, some ABBA songs were pretty good.) This was followed by Punk Rock, which did nothing to regain my loyalties to "pop" music. In 1982 I remember thinking "Tomorrow" from "Annie" was the only good song that year - and that's not even rock and roll! And then there was "rap" and "hip hop" and "gangsta rap" - just shoot me :-) I can't think of a song after 1990 I like - could be a few - I guess. Certainly nothing since 2000. My car radio has been dead ever since :-) ****************** So, "Witch Doctor" to "Your Mamma" - I guess that's the spread :-) At least for me :-) I don't think the musicians are the problem, they seem proficient enough, it's the lack of good songs for them to perform. They say, the reason why most people think "vinyl" is better than "digital" is because the music is better :-) I'll take "In A Gadda Da Vida", Iron Butterfly (1968), any day. Just my opinion you don't have to agree :-) Keep on Rockin' --Tom Swezey
