My Mother remembered the end of WWI.
She said word came a day early by mistake and they celebrated in the streets 
of her town, burning the Kaiser in effigy.
When they found out it was the next day, they celebrated all over again.

There was a joke at the time that America was the last country to join the 
war and the first to get out.
