******************** We passed another "numerological" date again. Last time was 2/2/22 this time it was 2/22/22 - ya, I slept through this one too. Seems like two too many 2's for me :-) Thinking about numbers though, I was thinking about the fact that there are 330 MILLION people in the United States. That's a LOT of people! That's a WHOLE LOT of people! That's 330,000,000 people. That's one third of a BILLION - thats BILLION - with a 'B'. That's a WHOLE LOT of people! That's starting to get us in the same club as China and India. Sure not quite, but we're not Switzerland any more either. With a pool of people that large you can always find AT LEAST 10 MILLION people on EVERY side of EVERY issue. Sure, usually even more, but AT LEAST 10 million. AT LEAST Ten Million love Biden. AT LEAST Ten Million hate Biden. AT LEAST Ten Million love Trump. AT LEAST Ten Million hate Trump. AT LEAST Ten Million think Jan 6 was patriotic. AT LEAST Ten Million think Jan 6 was treasonist. AT LEAST Ten Million are pro-abortion rights. AT LEAST Ten Million are anti-abortion. You name it and you can find Ten MILLION for it AND against it. Ten Million is A LOT of people. It's over three times the total population of the Twin Cities Area (3.16 million people). Ten Million people can make a lot of noise, get into a lot of mischief, cause a lot of damge, if they want to. But it's NOT a majority of the population - it's far from it it. It's only about 3% - it's nothing. ******************** Most of the population has always fallen into roughly three equal parts (plus or minus some sure, but roughly thirds). Liberal/Democrats, Conservative/Republicans and Independents + the "I don't care" crowd. This means that whatever political position you or I take on ANY issue - two thirds of the country doesn't agree with us. Everbody holds a minority position on EVERY issue. Nobody likes to hear that, I know I don't. Some issues do rise to 50% but still that's only HALF - half still don't agree with it. A few issues do rise to a substantial majority but very few. ******************** I like to think my political ideas are the right ones and everybody should agree wth them - but two thirds DON'T. Our form of government is perhaps our greatest invention. It floats on top of all the diversity and tries to give everybody at least "half-a-loaf". Nobody "wins" but nobody "loses" completely either. It seeks balance and stability. ******************** Everybody sees the world a little differently, different things are important to different people. Good ideas should be adopted whereever they come from, bad ideas should be exposed as such and ignored. It is our collective vision that makes America great. ******************** We need to respect and get along with people and views we don't agree with - because that's most of them. I'm not saying you shouldn't stick to what you believe - just learn to "play well with others" and respect their opinions too. You don't know everything and I don't know everything. "Two heads are better than one" and 330 MILLION heads are better yet. Stay Jazzed!
