7/7/2022 ****************************************** When I was little I liked this show a lot: Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok Guy Madison with Andy Devine (as Jingles). Back then they used to integrate the commercials and the shows together. The actors would appear, in character, in the ads hawking the products.(That was stopped by the FCC about 1970, as I recall). This show, as I recall, kept pushing Kellogg's Sugar Pops cereal. They would have a premiums toy from time to time too, - of course you needed the official coupon from the back of a cereal box to get it - plus a little money. Once, they had a little toy stage coach with a spring in it you wound up and it would scoot across the floor. I saw this on TV and thought it was SO COOL! I knew I just had to have one! Anyway, I talked my Mom into buying a box of Sugar Pops and struggled to choke down about a third of them. I didn't like them very much at all, but I REALLY wanted that toy stage coach - SO BAD! Then one day I noticed the box was missing. So I asked my Mon where it was and she said she didn't think I was eating them anymore, so she threw them out. "WHAT!!! - but did you save the coupon on the back so I can get the toy stage coach?" "What coupon?" "AHHHH!!!" To think I choked down ALL those crappy Sugar Pops for NOTHING! NOTHING! I think I'm still bummed out about it to this day :-) My first "real life" lesson on how truly unfair and cruel the world can really be (it wouldn't be my last :-) **************** This is where it gets kinda weird ... Recently, I found that toy stage coach out on the internet. From the description it has to be the same toy! RARE 1950s KELLOGG'S FROSTED FLAKES ~Toy Western Stage Coach~ CEREAL PREMIUM https://www.worthpoint.com/worthopedia/1950s-kelloggs-frosted-flakes-toy-1798748232 To think I could have gotten it for $0.35 (plus the coupon) and now they want $75.00. So part of me says I should go out and buy it to restore moral order to the universe. But part of me says, this is a kid's toy, you're never going to play with it, you're a grown man now, you have lots of other, better toys to play with :-) So I guess I'll let it go. Finally, closure on this childhood trauma - after all these years :-) **************** The Adventures of Wild Bill Hickok From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Adventures_of_Wild_Bill_Hickok KELLOGG'S SUGAR CORN POPS COMMERCIAL1950 https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vyndAw0o0wU "KIDS LOVE POPS *MOMS LOVE POPS POPS LOVE POPS" Wild Bill Hickok and Jingles Kellogg's Sugar Corn Pops TV commercial https://www.facebook.com/westernschannel/videos/wild-bill-hickok-and-jingles-kelloggs-sugar-corn-pops-tv-commercial/177024032983112/ 1956 KELLOGG'S SUGAR CORN POPS https://www.dailymotion.com/video/x3ntiqw "Shot with sugar through and through." <- (I bet that's right! :-) ****************************************** Speaking of Andy Devine ... don't get me started on Froggy the Gremlin :-) Andy's Gang - Pasta Fazooli vs. Froggy the Gremlin - Tuba https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=H35odPm7b3w ****************************************** Stay Jazzed! --Tom Swezey
