8/19/2021 ******************************************* I used to listen to international shortwave when I was younger. Most counties had an English news broadcast for half an hour or an hour everyday. VOA (Voice of America), BBC, DW (Deutsche Welle - West Germany), RNW (Radio Nederland - Holland), ABC (Australia), etc. My Dad was a Ham radio operator and we had all the equipment to receive them. This has pretty much died out now thanks to the internet - no need for shortwave to get a foreign news source anymore. Anyway one of my favorite "gets" was evidently on July 17, 1973. I picked up Radio Kabul, Afghanistan just that once and they were talking about people celebrating in the streets. It sounded like it was their "Fourth of July" holiday and I assumed that's all it was. Anyway, I saw later on the evening news that they had just overthrown their king! It WAS their "Fourth of July" happening live! 1973 Afghan coup d'état From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/1973_Afghan_coup_d%27%C3%A9tat ******************************************* Stay Jazzed! --Tom Swezey
