This year marks the centenary of his birth - December 12, 1915.
(Funny, I didn't read anything about it in those old WWI newspapers :-)

There have always been rumors about Sinatra's Mafia connections. I remember 
in 1963 when someone kidnapped his son my Dad commented that they must be 
out of their minds since the FBI and the mob would be hunting them.

In the movie/book "The Godfather" the singer they were pressuring the 
producer to support by cutting off his thoroughbred horse's head and putting 
it in his bed is thought to be a veiled reference to Sinatra getting his 
start with the help of a few of his friends.

No wait, I forgot, there is no Mafia :-)
