"Alice Blue Gown", Edith Day (01/26/1920) This week's theme: Famous, but why? Each of the songs this week was not just hit in their day - they were MEGA-HITS in their day. I don't get it. I'm not saying these are bad songs, they're not, they're okay. But usually when a song is a MEGA-HIT I usually "get it" as to why. But these seem very plain to me. I mean this one is about a girl singing about a dress. I'm sorry I can't relate. I just don't get it. Edith Day was from Minneapolis. Maybe that explains it. From the musical comedy "Irene". (By the way - "Alice Blue" is a shade of blue not a girl named Alice :-) Edith Day From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edith_Day Frank Sinatra & Tommy Dorsey - Alice Blue Gown https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LY31UmdYWVk Alice Blue Gown - lyrics http://songmeanings.com/songs/view/3530822107858957369/ The story of Alice and her famous gown of blue http://citizensvoice.com/arts-living/entertainment/2.211/the-story-of-alice-and-her-famous-gown-of-blue-1.1366097 Stay Jazzed! --Tom Swezey --
