The Sadducees or "the Sons of Zadok" (see: "Sedheq" ) were made up of the Jerusalem Temple priests and their families.
They were the "officially" recognized religious leaders of the Jews.
They died out with the destruction of the Jerusalem Temple in 67 AD.
