Keynote Speaker
The Rev. Paul Egertson was installed as
Bishop
of the Southern California West Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church
in America (ELCA) in January 1995. He previously served as a
parish pastor for 21 years in California and Nevada. In addition, he was
director of the Center for Theological Study in Thousand Oaks, Calif.,
for 13 years and a professor of religion at California Lutheran University
in that city for 10 years. He is a graduate of Pepperdine College, Los
Angeles, earned a master of divinity degree from Luther Theological Seminary
in St. Paul, and received a doctor of philosophy degree from the School
of Theology at Claremont, Calif.
While at the Center for Theological Study, he taught courses for laity, including “Homosexuality: Taking A Second Look.” In 1992, he received the Voice of Faithfulness award from Lutheran Lesbian and Gay Ministry, San Francisco. He and his wife have six sons and four grandchildren.
