This offering is a FileMaker™ bound application. (FileMaker is not required). Included in the package, if appropriate, is a company developed plug-in that calculates country and continent according to the call prefix. (Not needed nor supplied in the SS package) See additional plug-in info relating to various contest software versions below.
If it is desired to use a TNC with the software, another plug-in is required to provide serial communications. A 30 day demo of the required plug-in, Troi Serial Plug-in, is available for download at http://www.troi.com/software/serialdownload.html#dldClassic.
Be sure to download the 2.6 version for FileMaker 4, 5 and 6!.
There are two files needed which are supplied in the download from Troi and are named "Troi Serial Plug-in" and "Troi Serial X extension". They should be copied into the "FileMaker Extensions" folder of the folder you download here.
Since FileMaker is limited in some areas, many of the controlling commands use a Command Key plus number sequence. For example to log a contact use command key+5 (or punch a button). Also one needs to use the TAB key to advance to the next field on the Logger window. (the RETURN and ENTER keys don't function as TAB keys.)
Additionally, if using a TNC, it is not possible to insert a control character into the transmit buffer area - such as needed to send some commands. However, there are functions available to insert the necessary commands for contest operation.
The MacOS Classic version requires a PPC processor and system 8.1 or greater (Bound using FileMaker 5.5). If running on an older, slow machine such as a 7200, there is some moderate screen flashing when using CW or RTTY with a TNC and also a very slight, but noticable delay before sending the exchange. This flashing and delay may be irritating.
The MacOS X version has been tested using Systems 10.3.4 through 10.4.8 and the Keyspan serial adaptor. It was bound using FileMaker 6.
If using the software without the Troi Serial Plug-In, you may see a notice the plug-in is not installed when quitting the program even though you are in the phone contest or don't desire to use the plug-in. Ignore this message. It is more evident in the Classic version of the software.
If quitting from the digital logger window, you may see a message the the port is not open. Ignore this message.
All the files contained in the package are needed. Do not delete any!
The Sweepstakes package was used in both the CW and SSB contests in 2006. In the CW contest, both a KAM-XL and a KAM were used. Receiving and printing CW was not very useful, but the sending of the exchange using the macros was a breeze. (No log was submitted.)
