The  1998 Road racing season is finished for Minnesota, Wisconsin and most of Illinois. For those who still look on this page (and we hope you will) it will soon vanish. This was our original page eons ago. We have grown and with that growth new and better things are up and running. We think you will like what you are going to see. This page will be replaced with a new Minnesota page. We are getting a new look as our new system is up and software applications are being added and looked at.

We welcome those who enjoy this site to bookmark or link to it but you may only do so on this or the Upper Midwest Cycling pages.

If you are having problems with graphics and downloading please click here.

I have also added two bonus features for those that just want to check on weather and traffic in the metro area: the traffic report and NEXRAD. Now you have no excuse for being late or blaming it on the weather.

For traffic please go to Sidewalk.  They're usually up and running and get their information from MNDot's own traffic center.

A word of caution. Microsoft's Sidewalk has an excellent traffic report that you can access to via an advertising banner on top of the MNDOT map. If you have java you will enjoy the ramp signals and updates about every 30 seconds on your active screen. Great stuff. upperMidwestCycling has a direct link to Sidewalk per their request. We hope that you will look over what they have to offer not only in sports but what is happening in the Twin Cities area.
  • Will it rain on my parade? WEATHER AND RADAR REPORT
  • for regular weather click on weather: this will give you the current weather and a forecast. For radar click on radar report. This will give you Intellicast [c] and then click on either radar or NEXRAD for a radar report. NEXRAD is from the Chanhassen NWS. The menu is on the left side of your screen on Intellicast. Enjoy! Once in a while you may have a problem with the regular weather due to router problems in the Chicago area.

When you are finished with either section simply click on the back arrow on the top of your browser to return to the home page.

Since this page is going to be removed shortly it is suggested that you link directly to the homepage of upperMidwestCycling©.  To do so please go to the top of this page and click at the appropriate spot.

rails to trails - part 2

    Last trolley in Minneapolis

copyright 1984 Alan Lind - Transport History Press ---Scan copyright UpprMidwestCycling 1998

The date is Jun 18th, 1954.  The yellow trolley is at Hennepin and 9th and is headed for the Como/Harriet line's terminus at 50th and France.  In a few hours the trolleys shall run no more as this is one of the last revenue cars in service.   Today this section is used for cyclists only in the middle of the downtown area.  Many of our bike paths came from either former trolley lines or railroads.  By the way, a number of TCRT people responsible for the conversion were arrested and convicted - alas - too late to save the cars.  This is an on going historic series of rails to trails showing areas we now ride and what they were when the trolleys and railroads ran in the same area.

Every effort will be made to be accurate in racing dates, locations and results. I can only be responsible for what is given to me. Schedules shown are also subject to change or cancellation. Promoters are strongly encouraged to get whatever material they want placed on this website within reasonable time of their event.  We can now accept either color or black and white photographs that can be scanned and placed on the site at no charge.  For additional information please e-mail the webmaster.
