As of 10 April 2008 the Cycling portion of this website has been discontinued. We regret this action but over the past year or so there have been other matters that the webmaster has been concentrating on including the Boston MBTA project which will take better than 9 months to complete. There are plenty of other cycling websites available now since everyone and every club can and usually does have some kind of electronic means of communication. In 1997 when this effort was started we were one of the few to serve the upper Midwest. I do want to thank those who faithfully used the cycling portion of the website for race information. It also became next to impossible to assemble a decent racing calendar with Mike Hanley's responsibilities being expanded to cover more states as well as the ABR problems that have heretofore been mentioned. From time to time I may put in an article related to the sport but for now work, websites, my musical interests and other things have made the time needed to carry on with the cycling part all but impossible. upperMidwestCycling as a name will continue, of course as a website. The Boston project will eventually have its own website as well. To those who faithfully used the cycling part of this site I do thank you. If anyone wishes to carry on with the race part they may do so but under a different website name.
Thanks again and have a great racing season,
Larry
The second section is dedicated to railroad pictures taken by the webmaster from 1954 through 2007. There a number of pages that show railroading - mostly in the Chicago area - of what is now fallen flags: railroads that were either abandoned or absorbed by mergers. Also included are traction pictures of light rail, trolleys, elevated and the North Shore Line which ran until 1963 from Chicago to Milwaukee. Included now is a second page of pictures of transit in Kenosha and the Metra station from May, 2007.
The third and final section is dedicated to the State of Minnesota, again with photographs taken by the webmaster. While the majority are within the Twin Cities area there are also shots in the Duluth area as well as in southeast segment of the state. A new page of pictures have been added from a recent trip to S.E. Wisconsin taken in early May, 2007. Those pictures include some of the bike racing events around Kenosha, the new Quadracci Pavilion at the Milwaukee Art Museum and much more. To go on that site please click here http://www.umcycling.com/wis1.html.
The first website dated back to 1997 and was dedicated only to Minnesota cycling activities. We thank those who have helped in securing information. The other two sections are updated and changed from time to time by the webmaster from his vast library of photographs and slides as well as photo shoots. It is not open for contributions from other.
