Yeah, this is Joel Rosenberg's homepage

And I've been pretty horrible about keeping things up to date . . . mea culpa.  More soon.  Life's been busy, and so have I . . . some news to report, which I'll get to as soon as I can.

On the other hand, Dave Baker has put up an unofficial-but-blessed fan page right here . . .

Hang in there....

Some Books
(a click on their images will take you to amazon.com)
The Silver Stone, the second Keepers of the Hidden Ways book, is out in paperback.

(I think the cover is pretty spiffy.)

The Crimson Sky, the third of the Hidden Ways books.  ( There's a chunk of The Crimson Sky available on my FAQ.  The newspaper article that opens it is available here.) And yes, there is a new Guardians book --Not Exactly the Three Musketeers is out in paperback, and ...
And Not Quite Scaramouche is out hardcover.

(It's the second of the Pirojil & company trilogy.  Not Really the Prisoner of Zenda, the third, should be out in 2003, along with the paperback of Not Quite Scaramouche.)

More new stuff: I've now got an updated version of my FAQ available by autoresponse; it includes chunks of the new books.  (Or, if you'd prefer to read it online, just click here.)Send me a message with a Subject line that includes the phrase "Please send me your FAQ", and it will automagically do that. And a message with a Subject line that says "Please add me to your mailing list" will . . . well, I'll let you guess.

Welcome to my home page. I'll be revising it from time to time, as developments, well, develop. I'm going to post some of the essays and maybe short fiction, convention appearances and such... And if I throw in a personal note or two, I hope nobody'll be upset. (Well . . . actually, err, there are some people who it wouldn't bother me at all were they to get upset. You Know Who You Are.)
Consider it like my life: permanently under construction...

There are also Answers to Frequently Asked Questions available. Some day, when I have the time, I'll even write down the questions. (One of the more common ones is about whether there's going to be more D'Shai or Metzada books. I haven't put the question in yet, either -- but do have the answer there...)

I write fantasy and science fiction novels, although I've been known to do an Op-Ed piece or two on the side. I'm best known for my Guardians of the Flame fantasy series, which at present consists of seven novels from Penguin/ROC, all of which are out of print (at the moment; watch this space), and two from Tor, both of which are in print -- you can click here to see about ordering them from Amazon, if you want to.
fireduke.gif Before the new books, above, my most recent new book was The Fire Duke -- click on the title if you'd like to read the prologue. Or just click here if you want to order the paperback online from Amazon.com books, or here if you just couldn't live without the hardcover.

Booksellers
Amazon.com
I keep mentioning the nice folks at Amazon.com Books because they seem to keep a good supply of my books in stock, they'll give you a 10% discount on most of them, and they and do business over the Web (which is the closest thing to instant gratification available right now)...and because their search engine has made it terribly easy for me to link to them, and even to their stock of all books they have by me.

If you want to go right to their search page and search for anything they have -- which is a lot -- click here

Uncle Hugo's Books
Uncle Hugo's is one of the two really good SF bookshops in Minneapolis, and I like them a lot.  If you ask for a signed copy of something of mine, and they don't have one handy, they'll give me a call and I'll sign it next time I'm there.

Chronicles Bookshop
Linda and Mark at Chronicles have been nice enough to link to my page, and they carry my books and give a 10% discount -- and take orders via email -- so I'd be a cad and a fool if I didn't link back. (I'm not.)

Science Fiction Book Club
The Science Fiction Book Club is now online, and they link here, and, well, it'd be a shame not to link back. A lot of folks seem to have been turned on to my work from their editions of the Guardians books.

But I don't want to slight other booksellers, honest.
Other booksellers who carry my books are invited to email me; I'll be happy to add a link to your web page here.

Covers and Books and More Covers

The Road Home.gifThis is the cover of the latest Guardians book, The Road Home. You can click on it for the full thing, or on the title to order the paperback from you-know-who, or here for the hardcover.
SilverStone.gifAnd here's the cover of the hardback of The Silver Stone, the second of the Hidden Ways books.  You've probably seen the paperback by now.  At least, I hope you have.  It's above.

Essays, Op-Ed Pieces, and other miscellany

  • The Lesbian of Darkness -- No, it's not what you think. It's ashort essay on an alternate reality.
  • The Burglar, the Knife and the Gun -- this is the first piece I sold to the Star Tribune Op-Ed page; it's about the time that my wife, Felicia, woke up to find a burglar in our bedroom, reaching his hand under the covers...
  • The Count -- this is the original version of an Op-Ed piece published in the Star Tribune a couple of years ago. It's about child abuse, and yes, it's about me.
  • He Shouldn't Have Argued -- another Strib piece, this one about a murder in Minneapolis.  And yes, just like the other Op-Ed pieces, it's true.
  • Liver Night -- another less-than-tender childhood reminscence. In several senses.
  • The Hail Story -- not all of my essays about childhood are about being abused.  (My parents occasionally took a break.) This is my daughter Judy's favorite story, as I tell it to her.
