I am a Systems Consultant (read: somewhat glorified programmer) at the Harris Bank in downtown Chicago. I am also an "Assistant Vice President" (Bank titles are absurdly inflated). So far I have survived "rightsizing", "redeployment", and acquisition by a foreign competitor. I have also suggested a "Dilbert" sequence to Scott Adams, which he used. The work itself is interesting: Client-server programming with Sybase. Mia, my wife, is a Systems Analyst at another big Chicago bank. Similar story (except for the foreign takeover), different euphemisms.
Both of our sons have disabilities. Jamie has ADD (attention deficit disorder). With medication and therapy we are able to cope with this, and he is doing quite well in school. Tom's condition is far more serious. He is autistic. He has made good progress in his therapy and special ed, but he still has a very long way to go. Dealing with this is far and away the hardest thing I have ever done in my life, and is certainly a prospect I never contemplated during our Carleton days.
I still read science fiction, and until the pressures of parenthood became too intense Mia and I occasionally went folk dancing. Some day we may do so again. I am still interested in physics and astronomy, and try to read something about what is going on in those fields. Sunday mornings usually find us at St. Luke's Episcopal Church in Evanston. Weather permitting, I often go running in the morning, and sometimes do some bicycling.
I do plan to be at Reunion '97. See you there!
